What is The OPEN?

The open is the first competition on the road to the CrossFit games, but even if you are brand new to CrossFit there is no reason why you shouldn’t participate.
The Open is a five week long online competition, where participants complete one workout a week and submit their scores online.  The workouts are announced every Thursday evening with an RX and Scaled version to ensure that anyone can participate.
Here are 3 tips for first time Open competitors:
1. Can do Attitude

A positive attitude is one of the most overlooked qualities in athletes, yet has one of the greatest impacts on performance. Smile, laugh, have fun and know that you are going to do your best. You have no control over anyone else's performance, but you have complete control over your reaction to the situations around you. Choose to be positive, choose to have fun.

2. Ditch the Nerves

Yes, the open is big. Yes, hundreds of thousands of people participate. Yes, it's easy to see those numbers and start to get nervous. Take a deep breath, and imagine the open is a big whiteboard just like the one in your gym. There are names and scores all over it, but there is only one name that you need to focus on. YOURS.

We all have weaknesses, and as a newcomer it's easy to get caught up worrying about the skills you don’t have yet. RELAX! The open is meant to be accessible to everyone, scale as needed and remember that your score is not the value of your fitness. Your score is simply a way to watch your progress over time, it will be a benchmark as you move forward.
3. Take a Look Back

Take a moment to look back at your past and acknowledge how far you have come. CrossFit isn’t easy, and here you are pushing yourself to try things you never thought possible. Give yourself a big pat on the back and remember that CrossFit is a way of life, so you might as well enjoy the journey.
