1. Tell us a little about yourself!
I’m from Montreal, went to carleton university. I'm in the environmental consulting field. I love hockey and soccer and motorcycles. I do construction as a hobby and stress reliever. Huge dog person, i have two huskies.

1.What brought you to CrossFit in the first place?
I heard a lot about CrossFit through word of mouth and online media. The general consensus was that it was hard work but you got the results you were looking for. For exactly that, I decided to join CrossFit.
2. What was your first impression? How has it changed?
My first impression was  that I won't be able to do this. After watching a full CrossFit session, looking at the movements and power that was required, I thought there is no way! But the professional trainers are great at modifying the level of difficulty to suit your fitness level and still allow you to feel apart of the group.

3. Are there any changes you have seen in your everyday life (movement, energy, etc.) as a result of doing CrossFit?
Im sore! especially in the mornings since I started CrossFit. My flexibility and mobility have increased, as for my energy level, I’ve noticed that i'm a lot less tired throughout my day at work.

4. You have upgraded your membership to include 4 personal training sessions a month. Tell us how that is helping you? why would it be beneficial for someone else?
I upgraded my membership with the personal training sessions to improve on some specific areas of weakness in my shoulders and legs that needed to be addressed to perform the CrossFit movements safely. With my personal trainer Jeff, he really tailors the session to address those specific areas so I can progress quicker. The benefits of the adding the personal training sessions to your membership, is the personalized programming that include exercises and movements that will target the areas that require the most attention.

5. Any advice you would give someone who is maybe looking to start CrossFit?  
My advice would be don't hesitate and jump in. Yes it might be intimidating and you might feel a little out of your comfort zone but at CrossFit Closer, it's a family atmosphere. Everyone is there to support, teach, encourage you and join you in your progress.


6. What is your favourite CrossFit Closer memory so far?

Favourite memory so far would be my max front squat 185 pounds.

Meet Diana

As a seasoned fitness instructor for 20+ years, I was looking for something to spice up my workouts when I wasn’t teaching.  After trying some personal training sessions, a friend introduced me to CrossFit Closer.  One workout and I was hooked! 

It was exactly what I was looking for, fun, supportive, challenging and an environment where you feel like you can always learn something new.  Eight months in and not only have I met some amazing people, I don’t think I've ever done the same workout twice! The coaches at CFC are bar none some of the best around. 
For the newcomers, the environment is friendly and welcoming, and there is always a safety first attitude.   I’ve travelled to many boxes within Canada and I can easily say this is one of the best!

Rewind the clock back almost two and a half years. I was at the worst fitness level of my life, feeling tired, getting hurt, and sick every few weeks.  I knew fitness was important but had little drive to do any.   
​

Then luckily I found CrossFit, specifically CrossFit Closer and things changed.  I started out going twice a week, then three times, then four and more.   
​

It’s like gym class all over again, jumping, running, climbing rope, swinging on monkey bars, lifting stuff, it just keeps changing each class I attended.

​Now that I am motivated, I am now 30 pounds lighter, infinitely stronger, and healthier than I have ever been in my entire life.  My CrossFit Closer family is what changed me, they continually provide me with the encouragement and motivation I need to achieve and better my fitness.

Meet Deanne

Coming here might not have added years to my life but it has added quality to my years. In the last few years before I turned 50 I slowed down and became quite sedentary. I noticed I was weaker, and walking the dog even took a lot out of me. It finally hit when I was asking the kids to help me get up off the couch. If I feel like this at 50, what am I going to feel like at 60....80?

My sister talked me into going to CrossFit Closer with her and it has changed my life. I have exercised before but I can honestly say I have never enjoyed going as much as I enjoy going here. I can also say I have never worked so hard and pushed myself so hard and still looked forward to the next class. I started out not being able to squat to now squatting with weight on the bar. I can do things I couldn't do just two years ago. I also lost 30 pounds which was not my intention but a wonderful side effect. 
I don't think I would have stuck it out if it weren't for the excellent coaching and the community atmosphere. Everyone is treated like they matter, from the buffest athletes to the beginners. Everyone is made to feel welcome no matter their level of strength. Luckily for me, they modify every move to your ability and you watch as you see how far you have come. So it is with much gratitude that I say thank you CrossFit Closer for giving me a new ending. And it is just beginning. ​
